Nice to hear Sweets Edison lay it out on the trumpet in the intro. That's gotta be Ray playing piano: Bill Basie wouldn't use so many notes.
Nobody could sing slow like Ray, and no band could play slow like Basie's.
So many great, great singers recorded in front of the Basie band: Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, Joe Williams, probably some others I haven't heard. And the original Basie band singer, Mr. Five By Five, Little Jimmy Rushing, one of the greatest blues belters.
